With the reported decline in coronavirus cases across the country, the Government has decided to reopen all the educational institutes from 15 September.
The Federal Minister of Education, Shafqat Mehmood, announced the reopening of all the schools, colleges, and madrassas. The opening will be pursued in three phases following the final approval of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
Before the reopening, the testing has been going on for all the students and staff members from the last two weeks. An auspicious Pakistani startup “Find My Doctor” has been performing these rapid antigen tests. For your Information: A rapid antigen test is able to identify both the existing and previously existent viruses. Find My Doctor had conducted these tests in collaboration with Getz Pharma.
More than 2500 individuals have gone through the testing in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Hyderabad, and Multan. However, the results are quite shocking as 13% of individuals who got tested for COVID-19 turned out positive.
According to a separate report, a school located in Karachi had 25% of staff members who turned out COVID positive, out of which 90% cases were asymptomatic. The figures presented by the government during the same period of time demonstrated a 2% corona positivity rate.
The results shown by Find My Doctor are very much similar to those of Agha Khan University’s findings. A seroprevalence study led by AKU showed that 9 out of 10 people who tested COVID positive did not show any symptoms of the virus.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Pakistan has reached 300,371, 288,206 among which got recovered. The death toll reached to 6,370. 548 new coronavirus cases and deaths have also been confirmed during the last 24 hours.
The results of the aforementioned study are alarming, as the educational institutions are going to get reopened, there is a dire need to follow precautionary measures and SOPs that the government has issued, to avoid any complication.
