This year’s winter season is going to be a prolonged one and on top of that, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has informed about the severe gas shortage this winter.
After a report that predicted the prolonged upcoming season of winter, the demand is going to be high automatically. Due to the extreme uprise in gas usage this winter, it has been stated by the company that the gap between supply and demand is going to be very high.
According to the company, the gas shortage will reach up to 500 MMCFD in the severe cold weather.
SNGPL announced that the domestic consumers will be able to consume gas during certain hours for cooking purposes, in case the shortage prevails. However, efforts have been made to ensure the import of LNG to cope up with the rising demand for gas.
Nonetheless, the industrial sector will face gas shortage despite all these efforts, in the upcoming season.
It is pertinent to mention here that a weather update portal has predicted that the coming winter season is going to be record-breaking cold due to the La-Nina and Solar Minimum.
For those who are unaware of La-Nina, the changing oceanic temperatures of the Equatorial Pacific results in extreme weather conditions. Solar Minimum, however, is the reduction of solar activity on the sun which also causes extremely cold weather.
