ISLAMABAD According to Pakistan Point News – 21st Jul 2020): Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocked the Bigo app and issued a “final warning” to the video-sharing app TikTok. Bigo, and has received numerous complaints about TikTok about its adverse effects on the community and youth.
In a statement on Monday, he said he had given notice to the company asking them to limit the content before issuing a final warning to include filters to stop “profanity, fraud, and immorality.” Arslan Khalid, a digital media adviser to Prime Minister Imran Khan, welcomed the decision, saying that “the exploitation, independence and sexual exploitation of young girls at TikTok” was causing parents pain.
Nighat Dad, a lawyer who provides women with digital security training, told AFP that they were “confused” and did not focus on women. They praised the app for allowing people to express themselves in ways they often do not have in the community.
“A number of complaints have been received from various sections of the community against the scourge of immorality, obscenity, and obscene content in social media, especially TikTok and Bigo, as well as its devastating effects on society as a whole,” he said in a statement released on Tuesday.
The press release continued, and the PTA issued the necessary notices to the underlying media companies to balance intelligence and content within legal and ethical boundaries, in accordance with national laws. However, the response of these companies was unsatisfactory.
“Therefore, in exercising its powers under PECA, the PTA has decided to immediately ban Bigo and issue a final warning to TikTok to place a comprehensive system to control obscenity, fraud, and misconduct its communication app” he added.
