The Punjab government has stated unequivocally that no student this year will be promoted without taking the exams first.  Further to the federal government’s decision to prolong spring vacations in schools located in seven cities owing to the third wave of COVID-19, the provincial government’s spokesperson, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, provided clarification.

Musarrat told the media after the notification that the exams would be postponed for a while but would not be canceled this year.  In districts where the number of coronavirus cases is minimal, schools will stay open.  According to the spokesperson, the positivity rate in Punjab has risen to 9.5%, which is a worrying indicator.

She added the provincial government is fervently implementing the National Command and Operations Centre’s (NCOC) instructions for disease control. Indoor activities have also been limited, with wedding halls, restaurants, and offices closed. She went on to say that the third wave of coronavirus is far more deadly than the previous two.
